Everyone!

I was asked last week about when I plan to close the blog. I told the person who asked me I would do it on Friday. However, I had a change of heart.

I’ve decided not to close the blog down at all. I’m going to leave it running for as long as anyone wants. As long as people are still posting sometimes, I’ll leave the page going. Of course, if everyone stops posting then I’ll close the blog down, to avoid spam comments. But for now, I’m going to leave it as it is. I like to imagine that some students will still be posting sometime later, maybe a year later, keeping in touch that way, and you’re very welcome to do so.

But I don’t think right now is the right time to be posting, guys! It’s final exams, and I know you have work in other classes to do. The semester is over for this class, so please stop trying to do homework.

In other words, anything from now on that is posted will not affect your grade. To be honest, whatever people posted since Friday won’t count for much either.

The reason for this is simple: as always, everything depends on the PURPOSE of the blog. The blog is not just a place for you to post to get a better grade. The blog is a place to read others’ writing, to offer one another corrections or to discuss ideas. That’s why the grade for the blog section of the class is a “Blog Participation” grade.

Just like with class participation, you cannot “make up for it” at the end of semester… or, like, with exercise, make up for not exercising for years by exercising like crazy for a month. (Something I’m unfortunately experiencing right now, again.) Some things require steady, constant work, and improving your writing is one of them. Posting a lot at the end of semester isn’ty a way of “making up for” not posting before, and it can only have minimal impact.

My advice is — go and study for your exams. But later, please feel free to come back and post here. I’d love that!

Good luck on your exams, everyone!

‘Cultural relativism’ is in anthropology is a key methodological concept which is universally accepted within the discipline. This concept is based on theoretical considerations which are key to the understanding of ’scientific’ anthropology as they are key to the understanding of the anthropological frame of mind. Cultural relativism is an anthropological approach which posit that all cultures are of equal value and need to be studied from a neutral point of view. The study of a and/or any culture has to be done with a cold and neutral eye so that a particular culture can be understood at its own merits and not another culture’s. ‘Cultural pluralism’ is the concept that exists when all groups within a larger society maintain their unique cultural identities. In a pluralist culture, unique groups not only coexist side by side, but also consider qualities of other groups as traits worth having in the dominant culture. For example, a community center in the United States may offer classes in Indian yoga, Chinese calligraphy, and Latin salsa dancing. That city may also house one or more synagogues, mosques, mandirs, gurdwaras, and/or Buddhist temples, as well as several churches of various Christian denominations. The existence of such institutions and practices is possible if the cultural communities responsible for them are protected by law and accepted by the larger society in a pluralist culture.

Culture is diverse and unique itself. Desirable concept of each culture is different. Thus, all cultures should be considered by its own context and value. There is no common standard and value of each society. It is relative. Without considering the unique of each culture, there is no objective standard to compare societies and nobody can say that some cultures are more developed or superior than others. So, I think that we should understand and pay attention to not only our culture but also other cultures.

Overweight

I want to tell about overweight all over the world. It became the international problem now. The most serious country for obesity is USA. And the most serious problem is children because children can’t control their eating habit, but they continually expose lots of ads about junk food. The children don’t mind that they are overweight and when they are adult, they’re probably still overweight and it has big possibility that their children also might be overweight. What is the cause to overweight? Misusing of medicine causes obesity. People take a birth control pill, a nervine, steroids hormone easily although we shouldn’t take it repeatedly. The other cause is exercise. People don’t like to move and they even use a car when they have to move. Moreover, they use special machine even though they’re not the disabled. They just don’t want to walk. And they don’t think it is serious problem because they’re easygoing and not conscious of necessity about their problem. They don’t recognize that it is a problem and constantly hurt their health. Now, we live in comfort sufficiently and want to keep our easy lives. We can live at easy without thinking about problem that makes us unpleasant like obesity. So who wants to think about overweight?

Queen Min

Do you know the fact that Japanese is keeping the sword, which was used a murder Queen Min? Queen Min had tremendous ambition and a dignified apperance than other women. Even though at that time Chosun was a pretty conservative society and women was lower than men, she had more leadership than King Kojong, so she was also outstanding. For this reason, Japan who wants to make Chosun a their colony planned to kill Queen Min. What I can’t endure is that Japanese is keeping the sword, which was used a murder Queen Min in 1895, at Kusida shrine. What an ironical thing! Here’s a fact, but Japanese government asserts that Chosun people killed Queen Min. The responsible person for Kusida shrine is related to the person who knows a relation of Japanese samurai “Tuo Kazuaki.” He was a one of the samurais who kill Queen Min, and he reflected on his murder and put the sword in the shrine. Do you know it? I didn’t know it till I read a newspaper. I was ashamed as a Korean.

TEACHER.

Being a ‘teacher’ is quite popular as one of our dreams. I also have dreamed of being a teacher when I was younger. However, every teacher demonstrates that it is not easy to teach and have the students acquire knowledge because the students have completely different characters, precious knowledge, or ability. Every time I am taught by the teacher, I feel the impenetrable difficulties to teach students who are different in everything. By liking the teacher, students can become good at the subject and by respecting the teacher, students work hard to study all the more. Especailly the teacher who teaches from preschool to high school plays a very important role in a students’ life because the formation of character actively takes place at that time. I have expertienced being disappointed a teacher, praised by them, encouraged them, and scolded by them. It may be more important role than our parents’.

Digital Fortress

Hi, do you like mystery books? I do. Especially I like Dan Brown and  Sidney Sheldon’s. So I was so sorry about Sheldon’s death, because I can’t meet with his amazing new stories no more. Anyway, today I want to recommend a book of Dan Brown. I think all of you know his book the Da Vinci Code, because it is so famous. I also liked it, but actually, I think the former book Angels & Demons are better. However the book that I like the most is his first book Digital Fortress. It is about a brain battle between NSA(National Security Agency ) whose job is bugging and cryptography and a programmer who stands upon people’s rights to keep their privacy. I couldn’t get a sleep before I finish the book, becuase it was totally suspenseful and stunning. I think the author is a brilliant genius. Even his epilogue makes me crazy about cryptography. I strongly recommend you to read Digital Fortress!

GORD~ GORD! GORD^^

GORD! GORD! GORD! Now, there are many people in my campus life like friends, assistants, president, professors, and so on. Today let me introduce my professor Gord. I think it is really difficult, but I’ll try to write. I am going to talk about his appearance, personality, and teaching style.

First I feel friendly towards his appearance. I think it is because his image is round, so we can get near to him more easily. In result, many students like him and his appearance. He put on glasses, sometimes he put off them for cleaning the glasses. That time, I think he is becoming it and I have felt friendly other reasons, it is just his beard. I feel as if he is soft Santa Claus. His hair style and beard is short, considering. As a result, although he has a beard, he always looks clean. And he is wearing pant I haven’t seen wear T-shirt. Sometimes I imagine he wear T- shirt. Actually I think T-shirt will be a good match. Also he has always the black’s document bag which looks like heavy. Maybe in his bag, I think there are many documents for our class.

Next, I’ll tell you about his character but I don’t know about him. However I’m sure! He has many passions. He is always powerful professor. So his class is activity. He is keen on teaching.

Finally, I’ll tell you about his teaching style. His teaching style has various ways. He doesn’t use same way. Also his lectures are systematic. He gives us comment about our essay. In fact, I was charmed. Also he doesn’t compel us to speak correctly. So students have interest in his class. Especially, one of the important ways is BLOG.
It is sometimes troublesome work, but it helps my writing ability. So I participated in our blog with a pleasant mind.

Until now, I talked about GORD. Actually I have more story.^^ Gord is good professor, I like his teaching style.

One day you broke a coffee cup by accident which you loved. It was pretty expensive. Also you liked the design and colour but you bought just one. But you broke it. What will you do?

1.  buy excastly the same one again.       2.  buy a similar one which is less  expensive.       3.  buy a totally different one which is the same price.      4.  buy a totally dofferent one which is less expensive.         5. use a cup which you have had  instead of buying a new one.

Choose the one you like the most. Did you?

1. the person who chose number one is………            You can not give up easily. You think him/her inconstancy would be impulsive. So you expect he/she will come back to you and you wait with anxiety.

2. The person who chose number two is………….       You think buying a new expensive cup is stupid. This kind of person will look for a new person who can help you to forget the solitude created from the farewell.

3. The person who chose number three is……….        Even though you meet a farewell, you think you can fix everything yourself and give up him/her. Besides you don’t want to lower your standard to choose your boy/girl friend. You have high self-confidence.

4. The person who chose number four is…………..        You make the decision quite quickly. You’ll forget him/her easily and look for another person.

5. The person who chose number five is…………..          You think you meet a farewell because of yourself. You blame yourself and feel despair. It will take a pretty long time for you to love somebody again.

Sleep

People who don’t get snough sleep may lack energy, feel depressed or irritable, have trouble remembering everyday things, and get sick more often than people who get nenough sleep. They seem to age gaster and they may gave problems concentrationg at work or school. Some scientists beilieve a lack of sleep may be parially responsible for such health problems as high blood pressure, heart problems, and even obesity. Poor sleep also leads to accidents. On the other hand, too much sleep can be as harmfully as too little. In my case, after I get longer sleep, I have a heachage.

Adolescence

Adolescence is a time of great change. The dramatic physical developlment that comes with adolescence is easy to oberserve, but the emotional changes and growh are more important. The adolescent is constantly pushing for more independence, challenging parental control and experimenting with different attitudes and opinions. This process helps the teenager create his or her own adult identity. At the same time, adolescents continue to need the support and guidance of their parents. Whele they often challenge and even disobey parental rules, adolescents still need to know that the rules exeist. The parents of an adolescents needs to have great patience during this stage in their child’s life.
